Washer Dryer Combo Unit

Washer Dryer Combination

If you live in a small apartment or even a house with limited space, you may be ready for a washer dryer combo unit. When most people use the term "washer dryer combo unit" they may mean two different things.
  • Stackable Units
This is a washer dryer combo unit that is one on top of the other. It’s great for houses where you have limited space. We had one of these units in a little laundry closet on our upper floor. It fit in great.

The washer is always on the bottom because it is heaviest with its huge drum. The dryer tends to be lighter and is always on the top.

We had a little folding door with fake stained glass in it to hide the closet when the washer dryer combo unit was not in use.

  • All-in-One Units
This is the more modern definition of a washer dryer combo unit. It is actually a single appliance that does both.

The main reason for getting one of these isn’t so much the space-savings; it is because no external vent is needed. So people who live in apartments and can’t necessarily cut holes in their walls can get one of these washer dryer combo unit sets and still be able to do laundry at home.

Anyone who has lived in the city and taken hours of their free time to do laundry knows what a benefit this is. Besides the fact that you have to schlep a heavy bag of clothes down to the local laundromat, a bigger downside is that you have to take hours to do a load. Most people don’t feel comfortable leaving their clothes unattended in a public place, so there’s a lot of waiting around with a book or magazine.

But with a washer dryer combo unit in your own home, those days are over.

The down side of one of these types of sets is that it takes a really long time to do a load of clothes; between 3 and 5 hours. But you can set it going and then go off and do other things.

How is it possible that this type of washer dryer combo unit doesn’t need a vent? Because it uses the same air to dry the clothes instead of having new air flowing through it. It does this by removing the water from the air using a condensation technique. Then it disposes of the water through its wash water outflow pipe.

Yes, you do still need to be able to hook water up to it, but many of these types of washer dryer combo unit can attach directly to any household sink. And the waste water pipe can be put into the sink as well so the water just flows away; no special drain needed.

Also, they can plug into a normal outlet. A traditional dryer, in contrast, needs a special plug.

So anyone that has space next to a sink with access to an outlet can easily put a washer dryer combo unit into their home.
